Sydney ferries

Looking for a cheap yet amazing experience in Sydney? The views without having to fork out millions? Then embark on a ferry to some unknown destination…

The green and yellow ferries are one of Sydney’s landmarks and for a few dollars, they will take you places. Whether you are looking to go to the Zoo, the beach or Luna Park, there is a ferry that can take you there. With trip durations ranging from a couple of dozens of minutes to hour-long routes, you can base a whole day out on your ferry trip.

Meet at Circular Quay to catch the Manly ferry, and you will arrive at this beautiful Northern beach less than an hour later. Enjoy a sunny day on a long, sandy beach…maybe try surf lessons, there are plenty of classes or surf shops in Manly, or chill on the beach. When the sun goes down, you can sip a glass of wine at Manly Bar or Gazebo Manly and head back home with the ferry.

If you are looking for something to do with the kids, head to Taronga Zoo near Mosman Head. The ferry stops right at the bottom of a funicular that will take you up to see Australia’s wildlife. Not only you will see kangaroos and koalas but also elephants, giraffes or again turtles.

The Sugarmill Bar/Pub Kings Cross

The Sugarmill is a prime spot to go for dinner and pre-drinks before a night out in the cross. Located right in the heart of Kings Cross, it provides the relaxed atmosphere of a local pub with the lavish cocktails and furnishings of a bar.

There is a great range of food to order (including all day breakfasts, YUM!) as well as a nice range of red and white wines to choose from. The crowd at The Sugarmill varies, but generally packed in the afternoons with the locals enjoying a nice beer or cocktail.

It is definately the place to go with your friends if you're looking for a good feed, quick service and a couple of drinks before you head out to the clubs around the area. The venue is open everyday, with something exciting happening almost every night.

On Tuesday they usually host a Comedy night where the local talent preform for the audience-you can even book to have dinner and watch the show for just $25.

A little suggestion-check out their pitchers, four delicious flavours to choose from for only $16!

Opera Bar

Described as the “best beer garden in the world”, anybody who has ever been to Opera Bar knows it truly is.

Settled on the lower concourse near the Opera House, Opera Bar enjoys one the most enviable position in one of the best harbour in the world, right there on the water. Perfect for a quick lunch or a romantic dinner, or again to chill on a Sunday afternoon, admiring the views. Both of Sydney’s most amazing icons, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, are exposing their lovely lights and architecture while you’re dining or drinking. The city’s skyline also offers itself to the view of Opera Bar patrons.

While it can get busy, particularly on weekends, Opera Bar still is a lovely venue. The management also makes a point of offering quality, groovy live band acts featuring Australian artists. Harbour Bridge Climb

To get the adrenaline pumping while seeing the Sydney, the Harbour Bridge Climb would be the perfect place to see it from. Yes that’s right, why not try climbing and viewing the city from one of the international icons.

The Harbour Bridge Climb is a thrilling experience which provides the opportunity to see our beautiful city. Paul Cave is the businessman who launched the Bridge Climb for the very first time to public on the 1st of October 1998. Recently the Harbour Bridge itself celebrated its 75th Anniversary. The above climbs can be enjoyed four different times in a day. You could either go during the day, for dawn, twilight and during the night. Rates for adults range from $198 to $295 depending on the time you choose to do your climb.

To make this breathtaking experience even more amazing you are now able to get married right on top of the magnificent bridge. How cool would that be!!! It would be a dream come true.

Orbit Lounge

Need to chill after work or perhaps after a long week of work? Need to take the special someone for a night out to relax? Well just get to Australia Square on 264 George Street and catch a lift straight up to Level 47 to the Orbit Lounge. The Orbit Lounge is a stunningly gorgeous bar on the 47th floor giving you a revolving spectacular view of Sydney City.

Comfortably seat yourself into one of the white hot little pods and transport yourself to an outstanding 360 degree night view. The bar has a wide of wines, beers, liqueur and cocktails available to kick start the night or the weekend. The lounge atmosphere is great with lounge music and plenty of bar food to choose from. The cocktails are fantastic with my favourite being the grand champagne mojito.

Orbit Lounge is definitely a popular spot to just chill, relax and enjoy the dazzling view. It's charming, discrete and makes you feel like a million bucks 47 floor up. It is a must stop. Check it out. On this floor there is also a revolving restaurant which is always lovely for a nice romantic dining. More details on the restaurant will be on my next blog post. Baroque

Baroque has been opened since November 2009, in the beautiful historical suburb of the Rocks. Nestled in the Metcalfe building and showcasing a rough, industrial architecture, Baroque is the new sensation in Sydney. This bistro and patisserie offers fine, fresh French cuisine brilliantly prepared by world-renowned chefs.

Late Peter Chakros’ dream was to open a real bistro in Sydney – his wife Sally and sons Olivier and Jeremy have realised this dream by opening Baroque. This French family has been operating La Renaissance café, also in the Rocks, for over seventeen years offering top notch pastries, macarons and sandwiches to Sydney residents, tourists or homesick Frenchies. After having gained such experience in the Sydney market for French and fine food, the time had come to grow and offer even more.

The beautiful Baroque, in reference to the art movement, does the job. Classical French dishes as well as more modern cuisine can be found on the menu. The service is great and the food beautifully presented. Of course, the wine list is extensive and the selection is great – what would a French meal be without its wines? Few imported wines are on offer, but a majority are Australian, promoting our country’s amazing cellars.

In other words, French food amateur or not, if you are looking for a fancy yet down to earth culinary experience, Baroque is the place to be !

Tunnel Nightclub Potts Point

If you're looking for the newest and most popular night spot in Sydney at the moment-the answer is Tunnel nightclub in Potts Point. It's so new, they haven't even finished creating their website! Located at 1 Earl Place, Potts Points which is just a couple of steps away from Kings Cross station's Victoria Street exits.

Previously known as Dragonfly Nightclub, which had the reputation of providing hunky bartenders and electro/house beats spun by local DJ's to the crowd, has been re-furbished and licensed to hold 440 people-almost double the capacity of Dragonfly.

Tunnel hosts Gossip on Friday nights-where r'n'b, hip hop and old school is played by the DJ's all night. Saturday and Sunday nights are yet to be hosted by promoters, however they still throw a huge party with their DJ's playing house, electro and dance music till the very early hours of the morning.

One word of advice though...make sure to be there before 2am on Saturday nights!

The World Bar-Sydney

The perfect solution to those boring weeknights? World Bar in the good old cross.

World Bar has something on every night of the week for all of you restless kids out there. The music genre's range from indie, old school pop to electronic dance music. The venue has 2 rooms where they usually play different music and on some Tuesday nights there's KARAOKE!

Famous for serving classic cocktails in little white teapots, World Bar really does offer that fun and happy atmosphere most people look for when they heading out for a good night. The only other World Bar is actually in Queenstown, New Zealand-but dare I say, the one on Bayswater Road in Kings Cross might be a bit more fun!

There is the hefty $20 entry fee on Friday and Saturday nights after 10pm but it is certainly 2 of their most popular nights.

It definately is the place to go if you're a bit bored at home after work and want to have a bit of drink and dance. A little tip-Arrive early, save yourself some cash on the entry fee and remember not to drink straight from the teapot!

The Victoria Room Darlinghurst

The Victoria Room is a lovely little restaurant in Darlinghurst (the nicer side of the infamous Kings Cross Coke sign!). It would be perfect for a date or even a nice place to xperience with your girlfriends.

They have delicious menus for High Tea which is available on weekends till 5pm. And if you're up for a little bit of fun with your fritatas, there are some very interesting cocktails around $15 which are available to order as well.

The Victoria Room are open for dinner and supper, as well as bar with lots of friendly bartenders willing to create a special drink to your liking.

Don't let the prices dampen your excitement, The Victoria Room will definately leave you with a lovely experience and an even better experience for your appetite!
